HP Tablet hits stores on July 1st

HP will launch its TouchPad on July 1 in the U.S.  Priced at $ 499.99, its first tablet of the company aimed to compete against iPad (Apple), Galaxy Tab (Samsung), and Xoom(Motorola). Its price follows the industry standard for these types of devices.  The current operating system for this product is WebOS Palm.

Models with Wi-Fi capability with 16 GB of storage will be available for $ 500.  The 32 GB option will be available at $600, the same price of its competitor, the iPad.

The WiFi version of the device hits stores in North America on July 1, followed by Britain, Ireland, France and Germany. Canada
will receive the TouchPad in mid-July while Italy, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Singapore should expect them in late 2011.

In addition to
using the operating system WebOS Palm, HP TouchPad has a 9.7 inch display with touchscreen technology. Its processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon dual core 1.2 GHz with 1 GB of memory.

HP bought Palm last year for $ 1.2 billion, hoping to combine the WebOS with a
range of appliances ranging from smartphones to printers, betting that there is still room for another software platform for mobile devices.

In a tablet world dominated by Apple, Google (Android) and Samsung, HP will face an uphill battle to make an impact in sales.
