Compared to private health institutions, public hospitals offer cheaper, and sometimes free medical services. Poor Filipino families depend on them for their medical needs.

This Thursday (August 11), Karen Davila will present the implications of Department of Health (DOH)’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) program, which is said to improve the services offered by public hospitals.

Comguild Awards Recognize ABS-CBN Journalists

ABS-CBN news correspondents bagged 3 out of 6 awards of the 2011 Comguild Awards at the AFP Theater in Camp Aguinaldo on Sunday.



Bandila news anchor Karen Davila was named the best female news presenter while TV Patrol news anchor Ted Failon was hailed as the best male news presenter.



Davila and Failon were also the recipients of the same awards last year.



Meanwhile, the Comguild Awards recognized Sol Aragones as the best field reporter.



More than 2,000 journalism and mass communication students from various colleges and universities nationwide watched the event.



The Comguild Awards is held every year to recognize the exemplary work of journalists in the country.



Its awards committee is composed of highly regarded deans and schools heads of several colleges and universities in the Philippines.

Karen Davila's 'Krusada' on Renewable Energy

Award-winning broadcast journalist Karen Davila returns to the current affairs program “Krusada” to lobby the use of Renewable Energy, or energy from natural resources, in the country.

Karen believes this is the solution to the Filipinos’ woes when it comes to electricity. Presently, over 26 percent of Filipinos have no access to electricity, while those who have electricity are constantly troubled by the rising costs for this necessity.

Joining Karen in calling for the government’s support for Renewable Energy is the independent organization Greenpeace. According to the group, the Philippines can reach up to 50% usage of Renewable Energy by the year 2020.

One of the successful projects employing Renewable Energy such as solar energy is the “Ride for Light” project in Mindoro. The livelihood of families that were given solar home kits didn’t only get a boost, but the health of their children also improved.

PNoy's First Year on Krusada

During his inauguration, Pres. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III spoke about taking the straight path in leadership, called the people his “bosses,” and said that without corruption in the government, no Filipino will wallow in poverty.
