Karen Davila's 'Krusada' on Quality Healthcare

Compared to private health institutions, public hospitals offer cheaper, and sometimes free medical services. Poor Filipino families depend on them for their medical needs.

What will happen if government-managed hospitals such as the Philippine Heart Center, San Lazaro Hospital and Philippine Orthopedic Center become privatized?

This Thursday (August 11), Karen Davila will present the implications of Department of Health (DOH)’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) program, which is said to improve the services offered by public hospitals.

Will this shift aid the poor or will it only burden them?

Promoting quality healthcare has long been Karen Davila’s cause. This is why she expresses concern over this new measure pushed by the government.

Listen, take part and be one in her crusade for quality healthcare this Thursday (August 11) in “Krusada” after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN.

Henry Omaga-Diaz's 'Krusada' for Overseas Filipino Workers

Lack of job and business opportunities have pushed Filipinos to search for livelihood abroad. There, they don’t only find work, but they also earn more than what they usually get back home.

But while more and more Filipinos are trying their luck in different parts of the world, 1.7 million OFWs to be exact, many also return to the Philippines unsuccessful.

ABS-CBN anchor Henry Omaga-Diaz believes OFWs should get help and support to recover from the difficulties they experienced in foreign lands. Join him this Thursday (July 28) in “Krusada,” as he begins to fight for new opportunities here and abroad for the nation’s modern-day heroes.

Year after year, many Pinoys go back with nothing, while others return with emotional and physical trauma from abusive employers or injuries from work.

Such is the story of Steve Tamayo, owner of the famous Tamayo’s Catering. After working as a waiter and janitor in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, he gained considerable success in the ‘90s, but was then faced with a huge dilemma.

Ma. Fe Muya, on the other hand, went back and forth to Singapore as a domestic helper in 1995. She lived through the constant verbal assault from her employer, but finally went home in 2007 after her boss got into the business of prostitution. Still, she wasn’t fazed by this and returned to Singapore again. Will she finally reach her dreams this time?

Find out the government’s programs for the OFWs and how citizens can help them get their lives back on track and towards prosperity in “Krusada” with Henry-Omaga Diaz this Thursday (July 28), after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN.

Karen Davila's 'Krusada' on Renewable Energy

Award-winning broadcast journalist Karen Davila returns to the current affairs program “Krusada” to lobby the use of Renewable Energy, or energy from natural resources, in the country.

Karen believes this is the solution to the Filipinos’ woes when it comes to electricity. Presently, over 26 percent of Filipinos have no access to electricity, while those who have electricity are constantly troubled by the rising costs for this necessity.

Joining Karen in calling for the government’s support for Renewable Energy is the independent organization Greenpeace. According to the group, the Philippines can reach up to 50% usage of Renewable Energy by the year 2020.

One of the successful projects employing Renewable Energy such as solar energy is the “Ride for Light” project in Mindoro. The livelihood of families that were given solar home kits didn’t only get a boost, but the health of their children also improved.

Witness how Renewable Energy brings light, literally and figuratively, to communities and how it has changed their lives for the better. Listen and take part in Karen’s crusade, because it takes more than words to make a stand.

Dyan Castillejo's 'Krusada' Against Politics in Sports

With every game or match, Filipino athletes are known to fight with all their might and heart to bring glory to the nation. Unfortunately, they don’t usually get the support they truly need and deserve from home.

The Philippine Dragon Boat team, for example, has beaten superpowers in rowing to become world champions, but they still pack their own rice and canned goods to international competitions because they are not given pocket money.

There are even times they dive into the sea to find clams so that they have something to eat.

This Thursday (July 14) in “Krusada,” ABS-CBN senior sports correspondent Dyan Castillejo tries to put an end to this unfair treatment of Filipino athletes by exposing the politics in sports that has stood in the way of having them get proper support and recognition.

Dyan fought for medical assistance to our ailing Olympic boxers in the program before, and now she will continue her crusade for other national team players. This list includes swimmers who were disqualified to participate in a tourney because of politics, a Wushu artist who competed without allowance, and the members of the Karatedo team, who were given only one way tickets to the country they were fighting in.

Why do our athletes experience these challenges? Listen to their pleas and find out the whole story this Thursday (July 14) in “Krusada,” after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN. Because it takes more than words to make a stand, join Dyan Castillejo’s crusade. Post your comments on the issue and the episode on the “Krusada” Facebook fanpage

Bernadette Sembrano's 'Krusada' Against Obesity

Over three million children are overweight or obese in the Philippines, according to a study by the World Health Organization.

Based on the report, Filipino kids today have different eating habits and preferences. They eat too much fast food and junk food, which lack nutrition. They have also become less active when it comes to exercise and other types of games or play.

ABS-CBN news anchor Bernadette Sembrano believes that nourishing the body doesn’t stop at taking in food. To ensure good health, she said children should be given, not too much or too less, but proper nutrition.

This Thursday (July 7) in “Krusada,” Bernadette will show the reasons behind obesity, how to prevent it, and how to beat it.

For her report, she will introduce us to four-year-old John Azzryl, who already weighs the same as a seven-year old kid. She will also tackle the “OMG: Oh My Gulay” campaign, which pushes for ensuring the proper nourishment of children, especially those in elementary school.

This project aims to impart to everyone the importance and advantage of eating vegetables. Through planting squash, string beans, eggplant, tomato, bitter gourd, and other crops, children have access to nutritious food.

Listen, take part, and be one with “Krusada” this Thursday (July 7), after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN. Because it takes more than words to make a stand.

PNoy's First Year on Krusada

During his inauguration, Pres. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III spoke about taking the straight path in leadership, called the people his “bosses,” and said that without corruption in the government, no Filipino will wallow in poverty.

A year after he coined such catchphrases as “tuwid na daan,” “kayo ang boss ko,” and “kung walang corrupt, walang mahirap,” was he able to stay true to his promises to the people?

This Thursday (June 30) in “Krusada,” ABS-CBN news anchor Karen Davila will look through Aquino’s performance in his first 365 days in office.

His administration did come up with projects such as the “conditional cash transfer” for poor people and “tawid pasada” for drivers affected by the oil price hike. However, some people wonder if these programs really address the problem or just provide short-term solutions.
Some of the resource persons who will share their opinions are Gang Badoy, the founder of the “Dear Noynoy” Facebook Fanpage, Mae Paner aka Juana Change, an artist- director and political activist who supported PNoy during his candidacy, Ramon Casiple from the Institute for Political and Electoral Reform (IPER), and Rep. Mitos Magsaysay, who once called PNoy the “laziest, most stubborn, most inefficient president we’ve ever had.”

In his first year, did the President really treat the people like his boss? Was he able to guide the nation towards taking the straight path? Is the government free from corruption and the Filipinos, free from poverty?

Hear the thoughts of different Pinoys on PNoy’s crusade this Thursday (June 30) in “Krusada,” after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN. You may also join the discussion on the KrusadaTV Facebook fanpage (facebook.com/krusada). Because it takes more than words to make a stand.

Abner Mercado 'Krusada' for the Freedom of Elderly Inmates

A year has passed and yet President Benigno Aquino III has not granted any executive clemency for senior citizens in jail.

Many of them are already suffering from different ailments and in need of love and care of their families. With their lives slowly fading away, is their still hope for them to get the freedom they have hoped for a long time?

This Thursday (June 23) in “Krusada,” ABS-CBN correspondent Abner Mercado will show us the sad condition of elderly prisoners by introducing us to three inmates from the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW). They were expected to be freed last December but did not get their parole.

Abner’s crusade for old prisoners began years ago in the investigative documentary show “The Correspondents.” After three episodes on this topic, he was able to help a few of them get out of jail.

This advocacy is close to Abner’s heart as he sees his own mother and grandmother in the lolos and lolas in prison he has spoken with.

Join Abner Mercado in his crusade this Thursday (June 23) in “Krusada” after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN. Listen, take part and be one in his fight. Because it takes more than words to make a stand.
