Velvet Airs Teen Choice Awards 2011 Live!

Velvet is spicing things up this August with the hippest red carpet Hollywood event of the year!

The Teen Choice Awards 2011 will celebrate the hottest teen icons in film, television, music, sports and fashion in the choicest, star-studded two-hour event airing live via satellite Monday, Aug. 8 at 8am on Velvet. Kaley Cuoco, best known for her starring role in the comedy series The Big Bang Theory, rides the surf in to take on hosting duties for this year’s ceremonies. This is the only awards show where the winners—in categories in movies, music and television—are decided based purely on teen votes.

Among the industry’s biggest names are among the nominees for this year’s show. Will controversial pop sensation with the boyish good looks Justin Bieber prevail over the equally popular Bruno Mars, who made every girl in the planet fall in love with his swoonworthy ditties? Or will it be Jason Derulo’s hip-hop spell or Enrique Iglesias’ sexy Latin moves that will beat the two for the title of Choice Music: Male Music Artist award?

The ladies’ hot red carpet looks have also been the talk of the town, as Miley Cyrus, Vanessa Hudgens, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Taylor Swift vie for Choice Red Carpet Fashion Icon: Female. On the matinee idol front, Bieber also joins the ranks of the other Choice Red Carpet Fashion Icon: Male contenders – Chris Colfer, Zac Efron, Jaden Smith and Justin Timberlake.

How many surfboards, on the other hand, will “Twilight” stars Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattison take home this year? Robert is up for a total of four awards, including Choice Movie Actor: Drama for “Water for Elephants,” Choice Movie Actor: Science Fiction / Fantasy (against Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe) and Choice Movie Liplock for kissing his “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” co-star Kristen Stewart. Robert also faces strong competition from his other co-star Taylor—who has his own share of smooches with Kristen in the movie. Kristen is up against Harry Potter alum Emma Watson for the Choice Movie Actor: Female.

The night’s musical breaks will be delivered by Teen Choice nominees One Republic, R&B superstar Jason Derulo and teen sensation Selena Gomez and The Scene while seven-time Grammy Award-winning artist, producer and nominee “will.i.am” will spin music’s hottest tracks as “choice DJ.”

“Hawaii Five-O” bagged three nominations in the Choice TV—action categories: Choice TV Actor—Action for Daniel Dae Kim; Choice TV Actress—Action for Grace Park; and Choice TV: Action. “Make It Or Break It” also made it as one of the contenders for the Choice TV: Drama category, while its lead star Josie Loren is nominated as Choice TV Actress: Drama. Will “Make It Or Break It” make it against its tough competitor “Gossip Girl?”

Reality also staked their claim as hit entertainment with their own set of categories. Hit show “Jersey Shore” garnered three nominations, including Choice TV: Reality Show and a double-header for its stars Paul “Pauly D” Del Vecchio and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino in the category Choice TV: Male Reality/Variety Star. Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi made the cut for Choice TV: Female Reality/Variety Star category, putting her alongside the ladies of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” – Kim, Khloe and Kourtney. The hit dance show “So You Think You Can Dance” got a nod for Choice TV: Reality Competition Show while “America’s Next Top Model” was counted in for Choice TV: Personality for Tyra Banks.

Velvet is proud to be the channel that airs six of the nominated hit shows in this year’s Teen Choice awards —“Hawaii Five-O” “Make It Or Break It,” “Jersey Shore,” “Keeping Up With The Kardashians,” “America’s Next Top Model” and “So You Think You Can Dance.”

On the musical front, cool ladies Adele, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Rihanna and Taylor Swift are gunning for the surfboard in the Choice Music – female category while the Black-Eyed Peas, Far East Movement, the cast of Glee, Selena Gomez & The Scene and The Script are all in the running for Choice Music: Band. In the rock scene, nominees include 30 Seconds To Mars, Foo Fighters, One Republic, Linkin Park and Paramore.

So who will win the votes? Tune in to the exclusive live telecast of the Teen’s Choice Awards 2011 on Velvet on August 08, at 8:00am. Primetime telecast will be at 9pm, with encore telecasts on August 10, Wednesday (6:30p.m.) and August 13, Saturday (10p.m.). This is the first time that Velvet will be airing this fun awards show created just for teens.

Coco Martin Won Star Awards for Movie Best Actor

Actor Coco Martin said he is dedicating his Movie Actor of the Year award to Christopher de Leon.

In an interview, Martin said it is an honor for him to be nominated in the same category as de Leon, who is already a veteran in the entertainment industry.

He, however, refused to be compared to him, saying he is just a newbie in show business.

“Hindi naman. Napakabaguhan ko pa sa industriya para masabing kahilera ko siya dahil pareho kaming nanominate sa Best Actor category. Ganon naman e, kanya-kanyang panlasa ng mga hurado. Nakakatuwa para sa akin kasi nakalusot ako [na manalo]. Sana magkatrabaho pa ulit kami. Pangarap ko yun. Napakagaling at napakabait niyang katrabaho. Nagkatrabaho din kasi kami sa Sa ’yo Lamang,” he said.

Martin also recalled his experience when he got to work with de Leon in the past.

He said he was in awe with how the veteran actor has remained grounded despite his achievements in his career.

Meanwhile, Martin thanked the Philippine Movie Press Club for the recognition that they gave him.

“Nagpapasalamat ako sa PMPC sa karangalan na ibinigay nila sa akin. Napakasaya at napakasuwerte ng pakiramdam ko dahil kasabay nito, nabigyan din ako ng parangal sa isa pang award-giving body. Sana magtuloy-tuloy yung ganitong blessing at sisiguraduhin ko na mas pagbubutihan ko pa ang trabaho ko,” he said.

Martin was hailed as the Movie Actor of The Year in the 27th Star Awards for movies last June 21.

Ai-Ai delas Alas Won Star Awards for Movies Best Actress

I love Boy Abunda, I love Ama, so much,” pambawi ni Ai-Ai later on sa interview.

“Within our lifetime,” joke ni Ai-Ai.

ABS-CBN Wins International Gold Quill Award

For being the first to break the biggest election-related story on the Maguindanao massacre, helping drive young voters to register and vote, and creating an army of change to make the 2010 elections work, ABS-CBN Corporation bagged an international Gold Quill Award in recognition of its election advocacy campaign “Boto Mo, i-Patrol Mo.”

It was through ABS-CBN’s “Boto Mo, i-Patrol Mo” that the world learned about the single deadliest act against journalists when a Boto Patroller first sent a picture from the crime scene to ABS-CBN. And ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel, was the first to break the news.

His bravery in exposing the gruesome crime that left 58 dead showed what BMPM is all about—the ordinary Filipino, making a difference by letting the public know about the realities in his community and the government to do something about it.

“Boto Mo, i-Patrol Mo: Ako ang Simula” was launched a year before the 2010 national elections by ABS-CBN, which pioneered citizen journalism in the country. It not only empowered Filipinos to use technology to patrol their votes but also challenged them to become the start of the change they want for the country.

ABS-CBN was the only Philippine broadcast network to win an international Gold Quill Award from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) for its election advocacy and coverage via the BMPM campaign, which also won awards from the 2010 Philippine Quill Awards and the Anvil Awards.

The multi-platform campaign received 500 reports a day by email, 103 calls a day, and 3,058 texts a day during election season. And on election day, citizens’ reports grew to four per minute as compared to one per minute in 2007 when it was first launched.

During the campaign last year, BMPM has 87,419 registered Boto Patrollers in its central database, 125,487 fans on Facebook, 23,111 followers on Twitter, 6,960 members on its microsite, and 3,701 members on Multiply.

It organized vice-presidential and senatorial debates and pioneered the use of a Wireless Audience Response System (WARS), which allowed randomly selected citizens to indicate they believe the candidate’s answers or not during the televised debates, which became among the highest trending topics on Twitter.

This resulted to making ABS-CBN being cited by most Filipinos as the most credible TV station based on a Pulse Asia national opinion polls in 2010 with 72 percent of Filipinos saying the TV network gave a credible coverage of the elections, which is the highest among the country’s top TV networks.

And on election day, ABS-CBN’s election coverage on its flagship national evening newscast “TV Patrol World,” made up of ABS-CBN’s professional journalists and BMPM’s citizen journalists, won in the nationwide TV ratings based on the survey done by media specialist Kantar Media/TNS on Election Day. “TV Patrol World,” the Philippines’ longest-running newscast, notched the highest TV of 31.5 percent among all evening newscasts.
