Geforce, Radeon: Closer Look

We’re at that point of the year where the two top companies for graphics cards, Nvidia and ATI, flex their stuff to see who has the best unit. As far as the race goes, these two have been sharing the top spot for years let’s now take a look to see what they have to offer.

Let’s start off with ATI’s Radeon HD 6990. This card is an absolute monster on the current Direct x11 platform, producing jaw-dropping benchmarks on even the most demanding titles. The architect on this bad boy is nothing new however its core houses two HD6970 equipped with 4 GB of memory. The price? $799.

Next. Nvidia has turbocharged their GTX 580 model to create the GTX 590. It’s core consists of two GTX580, on a single unit with a total of 3GB of memory. This model is priced at $749.

Even though Nvidia’s top project is only equipped with 3GB, the GTX 590 outperforms the Radeon HD90 in more categories it falls behind in. The 1GB in memory gap is hardly a problem. The GTX 590 also has an innovative cooling system not found on previous GTX cards. This architecture allows venting of the air to pass in and out of the card across the CPU, reducing heat levels even more. The winner I have chosen in this match up? GTX 590.
