Flashforward-thinking

(Either my brain is fried and I can't think of any good puns, or there just aren't any good ones to be punned.)

Finally, mercifully, Flashforward has finished, never to return.

ABC opting not to renew the show for a second season didn't stop the producers from using the final episode not to answer lingering questions but rather to...set up a second season. Which sort of exemplifies everything that was wrong with this show.

The premise was great--everyone on Earth gets a glimpse of their future and tries to either make it happen or avoid it, while the FBI lead characters also try to figure out what caused the glimpses to happen in the first place. The changes made from the book (which I've finally read) were necessary in most cases--a group of scientists aren't going to be as popular a cast as a group of FBI agents.

But the show suffered from any number of problems, not the least of which were unrealistic, cliché-ridden dialogue, side plots that seemed to serve no purpose whatsoever (Aaron's trip to Afghanistan and the entire thing with Bryce and Keiko and Charlie's babysitter), a whole bunch of questions that it seems as though the show had no intention of ever answering, and the eventual realization that the only way to pad their material out for a full season was to throw the audience red herring after red herring.

Yes, Lost did the same thing--and the comparison was inevitable given that its series finale aired only a few days before Flashforward's--but there have been numerous attempts to recreate the magic of Lost, none of which have had even a tiny bit of success.

Another point while I'm at it--the explanation for Lost's inconsistencies turned out to be "they were all dead the whole time!". Leaving aside the unsatisfactory sense of resolution that gives us, it is a perfectly valid excuse for all the plot holes. Wherever they were, whatever afterlife or plane of existence they were on, it stands to reason that Earthly rules of science and logic might not apply. Flashforward can't use the same cop-out, and as such, everything needs a reason behind it.

I'll assume, rather charitably I think, that everything from maybe the third episode until the winter break served to beat into us the knowledge that the flash-forwards couldn't be changed. (Which brings into question why the *next* few episodes existed solely to give us the opposite impression.) Otherwise, any number of plot diversions--the German prisoner, the new-age religion, the Blue Hand Club--were literally nothing other than filler.

And of course, the unanswered questions. What was the connection of the lady Mark and Demitri were chasing before the blackout to the blackout? Who was really behind everything? What did Zoe do in Hawaii? (This is ignoring all the science-y questions about the slight differences between the flashforwards and what actually happened, how the autistic hipster-looking guy was used by Frost/Gibbons to help push events towards a certain future, what exactly Frost's motivation was, all stuff I think can be safely guessed at.)

My own theory is that Jericho is somehow ultimately behind the blackouts, perhaps they bankrolled Frost to do his work in Somalia and the mental hospital, and then when he turned on them, they got Simon to do the same work. Not that it matters now.

Overall, I think FlashForward would have been better served as a movie--everybody has their visions, FBI hunts down those responsible, finds them just before they pull off a second blackout. Easily manageable in two hours, without the clues, relationship drama, and side plots that the TV show was stuck with.

Really, I think the Hominids trilogy might have been a better choice if somebody was determined to get a Robert J. Sawyer novel on television. A bit more appeal to a mass audience, a bit more sci-fi but done in a way that it would really seem like any other drama on TV, only with a Neanderthal from a parallel world. It wouldn't be the best show ever, but it would be a heck of a lot better than this was.

Big Bucks for Bulb Replacement

Incandescent Light bulb, one of your house old Must-Have item for many years since this greatest invention was created 130 years ago by Thomas Edison.
However, this common article has something that would surprise you, When I was young my father told me not to take out the bulb hen it is glowing, was the filament is so fragile that could be broken mush easily when it is hot. Same thing applies to my beloved Telefunken ECC803 or Mullard 12AX7 Vacuum Tubes. They are made with heater with similar configuration as the Incandescent light bulbs.
Here are a few facts about the light bulb that has been lightening your house for many years.
1.) He is not the best to produce Lights
In fact as little as 1 watt out of every 50 that you put in contributes to actual light. The rest are lost to background heat. (A tungsten filament must be heated to between 3,000 and 5,000 degrees F to get it to glow).
2.)If we did away with them, they could power 2 cities the size of New York for free —By recent estimates, households and businesses in the United States lose about $18 billion every year to inefficiencies in lighting. In terms of power, that's enough to light up a city twice the size of New York for a whole year.
3.) Short life Span
Another thing that incandescent light bulbs are known for, besides the radiant heat, is their lifespan. Glowing for an average of about 1,000 hours before burning out. This short life span is also a built-in benefit for the light bulb companies. Bulbs that burn out once a year are replaced at a rate of 650 million per year in the U.S. alone. That's close to $2 billion in household spending directly attributed to incandescent inefficiency.
4.) Replacing the light bulb hasn't been easy. In reality, the incandescent light bulb has been on the way out for decades, but the transition hasn't been easy... Offices stopped using incandescent as their primary source of light back in the 1950s; today, the bulb's apparent replacement (the fluorescent tube) has emerged as a major culprit in the battle for the environment.
With mercury being a key ingredient in the millions of fluorescent tubes we use at work every day, disposal is turning into an industrial nightmare. A T5 CFL Cold Fluorescent Tube pollutions 10 tons of water in its life cycle. Today, the costs of cleanup — not to mention other shortcomings in the technology — have caused many businesses to start turning their backs on the once revered florescent.
Hope did not die with the fluorescent alternative...The Bright Idea did not die with the fluorescent alternative...
Because right now, there is an unprecedented push to make another light source the preferred commercial lighting solution of the 21st century. That is one of the top ten Inventions in 20th Century. It's so effective, in fact, that grocery stores are already using it in their refrigerated display cases because it produces very little background heat at all.
And it's so efficient that it needs just 18 watts of power to produce the same amount of light as a 100 watt Edison bulb.

This is the LED, Light Emitting Diode!

World's Most Tattooed Woman Julia Gnuse

Julia Gnuse was known as the world's most tattoeed woman, she also listed on the Guinness Book of records as Most tattoed woman in america where 95% of her body was covered by a tattoo. all of her tattoo was made by the same artist. at first she tattooed her body to cover her scarring because of her skin disorder.

American Julia Gnuse has covered her body in ink. Among the tattoos, you can find jungle scenes, her favourite actors and Disney cartoon characters.

But it wasn’t in the name of art that she started tattooing herself, it was because of her skin condition, called porphyria, which gave her blisters when her skin was exposed to sunlight.

To mask her scarring, she first tried tattooing her skin the same color to the scarring that she had, but it didn’t match her pale-looking skin. That’s when she tried colorful tattoos and got hooked up.

This addiction of hers lead her right into a Guinness World Record for “the American who has been named the most tattooed woman in the world.” don't forget to check another bizarre tattoo such as the eye tattoo and tongue tattoo on this crazy world.

here's the picture of Julie Gnuse the Woman with the most tattoo in the world.

2010 3D TV

The Avatar must be one of the best movie in the year not just of its imagination, story might not be so important but the creativity on the beautiful, colourful scene, background and the stereophonic sound and audio had made you part of the story itself; the 3D movie had been proven one of the reason of the success. Thanks to the Electronics Giant Samsung that created the market success of LED TV Q2 2009, That had already made the worlds’ Eyes Open to see the reality of the LED TV picture quality that goes with the finer resolution of the pixel of the LCD. In Last year, I still think that the 3D TV has yet come to town, After I bought a Blue ray player and insert the Disc Avatar into the tray to play, connected into my 4 years old Philips LCD HD TV., I could imagine that the Avatar must capture many people curiosity on why the Picture quality can be this GOOD!? And Yet my Philips is burning CCFL as backlight!

In the past FPD, FHD, LED and 120HZ, 200 Hz have all seen growth through marketing and sales strategy, 3D is now a few step ways from your door jumping into your living room.

This year, Korean Giant Samsung and other Global TV makers LG, Sony and Panasonic are expected to show their aggressiveness for Launch of 3D TV as a response to the applauding TV participants. Numerous 3D TV models with number more than 40 are being planned to launch in this year 2010.

Up to this moment, 3D TV is mainly applied in High-priced premium models utilizing LEDs and 240 Hz.

So what is your next home electronics Appliance purchase? I guess that should be a full LED backlit unit LED TV…it works perfectly with the Blue Rays… Even an analogue guy like I that usually goes late with these electronics toys. I had to say, that item might be a Must item in the list you purchase in the year.

Make a wise choice for the best you like in the market.

Rogers that

Anybody living anywhere in Canada knows the difficulty of working with Rogers, or Shaw, or whatever cable company has the quasi-monopoly in their area. Customer service is horrid--a handful of agents know what they're doing and genuinely try to help, but the vast majority of calls to Rogers involve a tricky automatic menu navigation, a lengthy spell on hold, and agents who tell you that your problems will be solved by upgrading to a more expensive cable package.

Such is what I was expecting Monday when I called Rogers to move to a cheaper Internet package--nobody's going to be living at the house I've been renting for school over the summer, so it didn't make sense to pay for 60 GB of bandwidth each month.

That's another thing--you have to call them. The Internet is an amazing thing--through it we can cancel a newspaper subscription, order a pizza, even file our taxes--yet with Rogers, you can't even make choices about your Internet service online.

Well, not can't so much as couldn't. As I learned when I went into Rogers' website to compare Internet packages before calling them (because you can save yourself a lot of frustration by knowing exactly what you want), you can now make changes to your Rogers services through the Rogers website. Internet, home phone, cell phone, TV, it's all there.

Of course, there's a catch. You can only upgrade your services online; you can only make changes if they result in even more money being forked over to Rogers. If you want to save any money or remove any services, you still have to call, where you will no doubt be offered incentives and incomprehensibility to try and get you to remain at your current level of Rogers money-forking-over-to.

I'd say that this horrid customer service is okay, because Rogers is digging their own grave, but that's not really the case--they have such a monopoly over content distribution that it's impossible to imagine life without them (or Shaw, Bell, etc.).

Roadside Angel to Prevent Speeding in Swiss

Roadside Angel was hired to prevent speeding in Swiss. The police department in Freibourg, west Switzerland, have come up with an original idea to stop motorists from driving to fast. They’ve hired a roadside angel.

Part of the “Slow Down, Take It Easy” anti-speeding campaign, the angel of Freibourg hopes to reduce the number of accidents, in the mountainous state of Switzerland. He’ll be showing up in different roadside locations, around Freibourg, and flap his wings at drivers that are going to fast. it's really unique idea to use a traffic angel to prevent a speeding in the road.

Police hope a physical presence will make the message of the campaign even stronger and actually get people to slow down. The bearded actor who plays the angel, will work 20 hours a week, until October. Those that spot him are encouraged to email the police department, for the chance of winning a driving lesson.

Home LED lighting will Come

The price of LED replacement Bulb is dropping more than I have expected.

This is a retail price reference as Hong Kong has a very responsive price reflection on the LEDs. With the rate of expansion in the LED production in China. The price would drop more than we expected of 10% to 20% per year.

Beginning of the year 2009, I bought a 3W K2 X3 LEDs replacement light bulb at HKD$196.00, after six months it was HKD$136.00. By end of the year 2009 it dropped to HKD100.00. Last week I went to buy one more again it was HKD88.00.

It is about 50% ASP drop a year, so by same time in 2011 it should be about HKD$30.00 a pieces, or USD$4.00. So I think that will be the time more people will be likely accept the price for LED replacement light bulb, and I think we will be able to have a lot of LED replacement in Supermarket, Electrical shop and everywhere… The price of $4.0 is 2 years earlier than I expected when I made the forecast beginning of 2009.

This will be a good news as we can see a huge demand of LED light bulb by 2011.

Let’s prepare to welcome the time of all LED SSL at home…in Hong Kong, so as the other large cities in the world.

World's Biggest Hamburger by Ted Reader

This hamburger made by ted reader was break the Guinness records for the World's Biggest and Heaviest Hamburgers ever. The 590 lbs-heavy burger was made with 300 pounds of meat, which makes it three times as heavy as the current record holder. Guinness is yet to acknowledge Ted Reader’s record, but it’s only a matter of time.

The cooking process of the world’s biggest hamburger began at 4 am, on Thursday, when a giant beef patty was placed on a custom barbecue, to slow cook. The burger was unveiled at noon, and it caught the eye of dozens of Toronto passers-by. It was topped off with all the fixings you’d find in an average burger, including lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and barbecue sauce.

Here's another picture of the World's Biggest and Heaviest Hamburger Ever.
