Telephones, radio, black-white TVs, Color TVs, Big-Screen TVs, Flat-screen TVs, Wide-screen TVs, Plasma TVs, LCD TVs and now finally…..3D TVs. The companies are making a big push to customers with their fancy 3D technology and I’ll admit it sure sounds interesting.
3D TVs work by showing two completely separate images to the viewers letting the brain mesh the two objects together to create the 3D effect. This creates the depth you’re used to seeing in the movie theaters. The active type 3D, shows images by alternating between each eye using shutter glasses. These require batteries which make the glasses quite expensive (up to $150 a pair). The passive type 3D uses polarized 3D glasses, similar to the ones in cinemas, and shows images to both eyes simultaneously with a multiple layer in front and back of each lens. These glasses range anywhere from $10-30.
3D TV definitely has the potential to take its place among the leading entertainment technologies found in our homes. The great thing about the current crop of models on offer is that in fact they are the top of the range HDTV models from each of the manufacturers. As such, you're pretty much guaranteed superb high quality standard 2D imaging as well as having the option to watch in 3D.
