Does Google Use Data From Social Sites In Ranking?

In a recent video, Google's Matt Cutts confirms that Google uses social media results (re-tweets, facebook shares, etc)  in their algorithms.
These social media results are mostly used in the real-time search index but they are studying how they may expand it more into other areas of search, including web search.
