Gerald Anderson and Derek Ramsay Go Head-to-Head at 2011 Star Magic Games

The 2011 Star Magic Games was held last Sunday, July 31, where Kapamilya stars were divided into four teams to compete in basketball, volleyball, and badminton, among others. Opening ceremonies started as early as 8 a.m. and the events kicked off with a kiddie fun run right after. Teen stars (and teammates for the day) Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes were seen enjoying the patintero games while Xyriel Manabat and Zaijian Jaranilla competed in the tug-of-war with the rest of the Goin’ Bulilit kids. Melissa Ricks, Enchong Dee, Empress, and Kitkat were seen in high spirits enjoying the dodgeball games. Piolo Pascual and Matteo Guidicelli ended up battling each other in the badminton finals, with Piolo winning the game. Bettina Carlos showed off her varsity player moves during the volleyball matches.

The culminating activity of the Star Magic Games 2011 was the basketball exhibition game between the Star Magic team and the ASAP Rocks team. Star Magic’s team captain was Gerald Anderson and the other members included Jason Abalos, Ryan Bang, Ram Sagad, and twins Toffi and Kenny Santos.

The ASAP team, led by Derek Ramsay, held the lead for most of the game until the last few minutes of the third quarter when Gerald, Xian Lim, Rayver Cruz, and Young JV started making plays that gave them an almost five point advantage by the last quarter. Derek and Gerald showed standout performances as they defended against each other and led their team to an exciting finish with Team ASAP Rocks winning the game by just one point 80-79 during the last few seconds in the game.

Team ASAP’s power players included Jhong Hilario who played point guard and showed agility on the field despite suffering from cramps in both legs during the last quarter, Gab Valenciano whose excellent defense paved the way for their last point advantage, plus Vhong Navarro and dancer Eric Tai who provided excellent support for follow-up shots and aggressive defense.

Last year’s Male MVP Gerald Anderson once again showed his prowess on the court as he emerged top scorer for the game with 31 points. Although he was still feeling sick the day before, Derek Ramsay was the second highest scorer with 23 points.

Celebrities seen on the bleachers enjoying the game were best buddies (and rumored couples) Kim Chiu, Enchong Dee, Maja Salvador, and Matteo Guidicelli who had finished their events earlier in the day. Ryan Bang provided comic relief all throughout the event with his crazy antics on and off the court. Angelica Panganiban, who was not participating in the games, but was cheering for Derek the entire game, arrived with her boyfriend wearing similar silver rubber shoes. John Lloyd Cruz and Shaina Magdayao also arrived in matching black sporty outfits after attending the opening ceremonies earlier in the day. Also seen in the crowd was Cristine Reyes and Rayver’s mom cheering on the Star Magic team’s side.

Derek Ramsay on Doing Bed Scenes With Anne Curtis and Cristine Reyes

Aside from being a games master on The Biggest Loser, Derek Ramsay is also busy shooting a movie with Cristine Reyes and Anne Curtis. In a recent interview, the dashing actor said that he’s really honored to be working with two of the sexiest and most talented actresses in the biz. “Si Anne nakatrabako ko na before. But it’s my first time to work with Cristine. Masaya din siya katrabaho. I feel like I need to give my best performance every shooting day para masabayan ko sila dahil master na master nila yung characters nila. Nung una kasi medyo nangangapa pa ako. Pero dumarating na kami sa mga eksenang mabibigat ang tension at heavy drama, so naintindihan ko na talaga yung character ko,” he said.

Derek further shared that he has already done several intense bed scenes with both Cristine and Anne. Since his leading ladies are both romantically committed in real life, did he have to ask permission from their respective beaus? “I don’t know with Anne and Cristine kung nagpaalam sila [sa kani-kanilang boyfriend]. But Rayver's like a brother to me and Erwann's my ex-girlfriend’s brother, so I don’t think kailangan magpaalam. On my end, alam ko na artista kami. Si Angel (Angelica Panganiban) hindi nagpapaalam sa akin, ako hindi rin nagpapaalam sa kanya. Parte ng trabaho namin yun e. She trusts me and I trust her na hindi kami gagawa ng eksena na ganon na hindi naman kailangan.”

As a matter of fact, Derek and Angelica go on double dates with Cristine and Rayver since all of them are close friends even off cam. Angelica and Cristine greet each other on Twitter every now and then. “Yung time na niyakap ako ni Cristine during a fashion show, that was all for show. Yung script was mag-aagawan sila ni Vice Ganda. Yun lang ang ginawa namin sa stage. Walang issue yung pagyakap ni Cristine. There was no malice in it. Tsaka lumalabas nga kami—ako, Angel, Cristine and Rayver. So wala, hindi magseselos yun si Rayver,” he added.

Derek Ramsay on Being the Game Master of The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition

He is an in-demand commercial model and endorser, the Philippine entertainment’s “Ultimate Leading Man,” and also the captain of the country’s national ultimate Frisbee team.

But these days, Derek Ramsay is focused on one thing, and that is his role as game master in the top-rating reality program “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition.”

Derek joins program host Sharon Cuneta and trainers Jim Saret and Chinggay Andrada as the only people from outside the Biggest Loser camp that get to interact regularly with the 11 remaining contestants of the show.

Whenever he surfaces on camp, bigating Pinoys Alan, Angela, Art, Eboy, Joy, Hazel, Larry, Raffy, Ryan, Winwin, and last week’s Biggest Loser Eric know they are up for a tough task as they continue their journey to healthier and better lives.

Derek said he does a lot of work before facing the contestants. As a natural athlete, he is always ready physically but he needs to be mentally and emotionally prepared before getting them in action.

“Since I get to see their capabilities, I try to analyze who to push more in a particular challenge. So I analyze the challenge. I take into consideration who’s quick to adapt and who’s more likely to have a difficult time. I also plan out which contestant to specifically motivate and push in a particular challenge,” explained the hunk actor.

As game master, he said he does his best to stay in the middle and show no partiality among the contestants.

“I try to maintain a certain distance from the contestants, even off cam, so I can prevent developing any bias. Since I already know their strengths and weaknesses based on the previous challenges, I know the right motivation each one of them needs,” he said.

Nonetheless, he admitted that he has made a connection with the whole group, and even gets inspiration from them when dealing with his own problems.

“It’s just so inspiring to see them realize the need to change and actually do something about it. They get to face a lot here, a lot of physical and emotional experiences, but they face it no matter what. So, whenever I have a problem, I think about what they do here, how they continue to strive even when things are hard or tough. That inspires me a lot,” he shared.

As a break from the usual grueling challenges, Derek joined the contestants this Monday (July 4) in a fun game of Frisbee. Team captains Raffy and Alan picked their former group mates in Red Team and Blue Team, respectively.

After a tiring yet fun game, the former Reds finally get to beat the Blue Team with a score of 4-3.

This week, the contestants begin competing against each other after their groups were dissolved as part of a twist in the previous weigh-in.

In the coming “water weight challenge,” each of them will have to transfer 50 sacks of marbles from one end of the pool to the other. Hazel will have one less sack to transport as part of her reward as the Frisbee MVP.

The first three to finish the challenge get to pick one from these three rewards: immunity, a 2 lbs. advantage at the weigh-in, or a video message from home. On the other hand, the two last placers get to do the laundry for the whole group for a week.

ABS-CBN Business Unit Head Laurenti Dyogi, meanwhile, is very happy about the performance of the show, which continues to top its timeslot.

“More than the ratings, what I am happy about the program is the way it has changed the lives of the contestants so far. There are still a lot of heartwarming and exciting moments in the show that will bring wonder to the public because of the amazing weight loss of these bigating Pinoy,” he said.

Find out who are the big winners and the big losers in the upcoming challenge and first competitive weigh-in of the contestants as individuals or singles. Don’t miss “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition,” from Monday to Friday, after “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin” on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida.

Cristine Reyes and Derek Ramsay Share Unique Friendship

Actress Cristine Reyes and actor Derek Ramsay said they are now sharing a unique friendship after they became close while doing their first film together under Star Cinema.

Reyes and Ramsay together with Anne Curtis started shooting the film a few weeks ago.

In an interview with "Showbiz News Ngayon", Reyes said she became close to Ramsay after the actor started asking questions about the microblogging site Twitter.

"Mayroon lang siyang questions about Twitter, pero 'yon lang," Reyes said.

Reyes is active in using Twitter to reach out to her fans.

Meanwhile, she also shared her excitement in doing a series with her real-life sweetheart Rayver Cruz.

"Okay lang din, kasama mo naman ang special someone mo. So, happy naman. Kumportable ako kapag kasama ko siya. Abangan niyo po ang 'Reputasyon', malapit na po sa ABS-CBN," Reyes said.

Derek Ramsay Already Married

Amid all the blessings coming his way, actor Derek Ramsay now faces another controversy involving his relationship with actress Angelica Panganiban.

ABS-CBN News was able to get hold of a marriage contract from the National Statistics Office (NSO) showing that "Derek Arthur Ramsay" got married to a 21-year-old "Mary Christine Jolly" last April 3, 2002.

Mayor Reinaldo Castro allegedly wed the two at his office in Balagtas, Bulacan around 3 p.m.

The marriage contract states that Jolly is an Indian-Filipino born in Las PiƱas.

Two witnesses signed the marriage contract.

ABS-CBN News sought the help of a family lawyer assess the contract.

According to Atty. Jean Ferry, the marriage is still considered legal because the contract does not contain any annotation of nullification.

An annotation of nullification would mean that a marriage is null and void.

“If the certificate of marriage has no annotation that is required, then on its face, the marriage is still subsisting and still valid...To other persons, he is still married,” Ferry said.

Legal options mulled

In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News on Wednesday, both Ramsay and Panganiban bravely addressed the controversy.

“My lawyers are taking care of the various legal options that we have and handle the issue. It’s being taken care of as we speak,” said Ramsay.

Ramsay revealed he considers this issue personal and sensitive. He, however, clarified that this one is no different from the previous intrigues he and Panganiban have had to face.

“This is a very personal matter which I'll share with everyone... For me, just like all the other intrigues that happen every month, I'll focus on work, and for those who have given support, I want to say thank you and to let you know that she (Angelica) stands by me and our relationship is very strong,” Ramsay said..

“Siyempre, gusto naming harapin na masaya, ‘di ba? So tina-try namin ang best namin na labanan ito, na okay kami,” Panganiban said.

Both Ramsay and Panganiban have decided to maintain a positive outlook in life despite the negative issues they have had to confront.

Meanwhile, the alleged wife of Ramsay is keeping mum and is reported to be living outside the Philippines.
