PBB's James Reid and Brett Jackson Release Their First Album Under Star Records

It is a dream came true for the PBB Teen-ternationals James Reid and Bret Jackson as they release their first ever album We are Whatever under Star Records. The album consists of their original compositions which are the result of both hard work and fun. "At first we are just playing around, just having fun," James said. "I just went to his house and we were like, whoa this is cool, why don't we put this on Youtube, we put it on Youtube and it got like 20,000 hits and then we're like, ‘Oh, this might be something.’"

They said that they tried to write songs in Filipino but admitted that they still couldn't express themselves well in the language. "We put a tagalog part in, just because we thought it might help, but to say what we want to say, it's hard, still."

We are Whatever contains mostly love songs which made us ask James and Brett who they dedicate this album to. "I guess the inspiration came from the past relationships. There is no particular person I dedicate it to, we made it for our fans, that's why we started this, for our fans because they have been waiting since PBB for me and Bret to come up with this album," James explained.

We are Whatever is in digital format and can be downloaded via the Star Records website.

Maria Aragon Starts Recording First Album

Maria Aragon has set foot in the studio to record her first album.

Days after arriving from Canada, the 11-year-old YouTube sensation continues to live out her dream in the Philippines as she becomes the newest Kapamilya pop singer.

Among the songs in Aragon's new album is her rendition of Lady Gaga's “Born This Way,” which catapulted her to international recognition. It can be remembered that Lady Gaga herself invited Aragon to perform the song with her at Air Canada Centre in Toronto.

The Filipino-Canadian also takes a crack at singing Original Pilipino Music or OPM in her album with "Kung Bubuksan Mo Puso Mo."

Aragon admitted that she is still in disbelief with the stardom that has welcomed her here in the Philippines, but said that she is inspired by Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano and his outlook on career and spirituality.

She added that she wants to stay grounded and be a normal kid despite all the attention she is getting.

Aragon has already shared a song number with Pop Princess Sarah Geronimo on "ASAP Rocks," ABS-CBN's musical variety show. She is set to perform with Concert King Martin Nievera on the same show this Sunday.

She will also be the voice of Star Cinema's upcoming movie with actresses Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes as she sings "Way Back Home," her first movie soundtrack.

Chiro Releases Launching Album

The newest quartet in the country, "Chiro," launched their debut digital album Thursday under Star Records.

"Overwhelming maging parte ng Star Records. Noong time noong sumali kami [sa competition], parang nagbabakasakali lang kasi matagal na kaming naggi-gig sa iba. Tapos gusto na naming maiba. Hindi lang 'yong puro cover kaya 'yon," the group's vocalist Toni Rose Reynes told abs-cbnNEWS.com.

The band's name according to Reynes came from a driver's T-shirt while they were going to Sta. Mesa in Manila.

Other band members are Ivan Louis Leynes (drummer), Erick Gabriel (bassist) and Faelmar Ocampo (guitar).

The band first made a name when they won in the Nokia Music Connection beating over 200 participants.

The group said their digital album features songs such as "Iyak Na", "Alaala", "Handog" and "Batang Bata Ka Pa" which is also the album's carrier single.

Chiro also included in their album their original composition titled "Pahiwatig."

When asked why they chose to do a remake of APO Hiking Society's "Batang Bata Ka Pa", Reynes replied: "Bakit APO? Noong sumali kami sa Nokia 'yon na 'yong aregladong song. At that time hindi pa kami concentrated sa composition kaya nag-concentrate kami sa talagang areglado namin at 'yon 'yon. Kami fan talaga kami ng Apo."

Chiro's digital album will be released online this month while the physical CD-release will happen soon.

The band admitted that their influence when it comes to music are bands like Sugarfree, Eraserheads and APO Hiking Society.

Bugoy Drilon Preparing for his First All-English Album

Since emerging from Pinoy Dream Academy in 2008, Bugoy Drilon has led a steady singing career that he is very thankful for and he has even more choice projects in the works. “Magtu-two years na ako with Star Magic. Okay naman yung pag-alaga nila sa akin. Nasu-sustain naman yung career ko, nabubuhay naman yung family ko. Napo-provide ko naman yung gusto ko sa buhay ko,” he admitted.

The 22-year-old native from Camarines Sur said he has already learned a lot from being in showbiz for over three years now.

Currently promoting his album Nang Dahil Sa Pag-Ibig under Star Records which was released last year, Bugoy said he is also looking forward to starting work on his newest album which was something he did not expect to be offered to him. “Sana suportahan nila yung third album ko at abangan nila dahil magkakaroon ako ng album na puro English na kanta. This will be my first project na kakanta ako ng mga English na kanta, I think it’s happening this year. I don’t know. I’m going to try that naman. Sa lahat lahat ng albums ko, naka-apat na ako na albums (one album was a compilation with other artists), wala pa akong English na kinanta,” he said.

Despite his steady popularity, Bugoy admitted he still has some reservations regarding singing in English. “Sana magustuhan nila. I’m really hoping hindi naman ako malait sa diction ko,” he told Push.com.ph.

Bugoy also said she is especially proud of his current album because of he was able to contribute a song he wrote. “First time ko rin mag-compose ng sarili kong kanta yung ‘Paano Na Ang Puso Ko.’ Isang kanta lang yun pero siyempre natutuwa ako dahil nagawa ko. Siya yung next video na ilalabas from my third album. Kaya I’m so happy na at least hindi na-reject yung kinompose ko. Natuwa naman sila sa ginawa ko,” he added.

As part of the Star Magic tour that recently went to Europe, Bugoy felt very blessed to be included in such a talented group. “Kasama ko doon si Ate KC Concepcion, Matteo Guidicelli, at Derek Ramsay. Pumunta kami ng Zurich, Switzerland. Sobrang ganda at sobrang lamig doon. Lahat ng tao nakasalamuha namin ang babait nila sa amin. Yung mga Pinoy dun, siguro umuwi ako ng may isang maletang chocolates. Natutuwa nga po ako kasi hindi ko akalain na may mga taong mata-touch ka na mapapamahal sa ‘yo,” he recalled. The talented singer admitted that their one-night only show was an unforgettable night for him. “Isang show lang pero malaking venue siya. Nakapag-meet and greet kami with the fans and then pumunta sila sa hotel kung saan kami nag-stay. And then lumabas din kami at nag-ikot ikot dun so nakita ko yung mga lugar dun. Pinaka-first time ko yun sa Europe,” he said.

The following months will prove to be just as busy for him as he leaves in August to perform in the US. Bugoy also told Push.com.ph that his distinct voice has definitely helped him set himself apart from other contemporary singers. “Di ba alam naman natin na matagal na rin ako sa showbiz, at hindi pa rin nila ako nakakalimutan so it’s my advantage na kilala pa rin nila ako. malaki ang utang na loob ko dun. Actually wala akong training eh. Sadyang hindi kasi naka-align boses ko. Compared sa ibang singers, yung vocal cords ko, hindi siya nag-ko-close. So kahit mapaos man ako, the same pa rin yung quality ng boses ko. Puwedeng good thing and bad thing yun kasi ‘pag good thing, kahit anong kantahin ko nakakanta ko, ang bad thing dun is hindi ko alam kung paano siya gagamitin in a proper way. Di ba sa PDA may training kami? Ako yung pinakamahirap na tinuruan nila. Ako lang yung hindi nakakuha kasi hindi aligned yung vocal cords ko,” he shared.

Bugoy also admitted that he likes making music videos for his songs because it has also helped him practice his acting skills. “Actually hindi ako nag-wo-workshop sa pag-arte. I’m trying na mag-arte pero hindi naman ako talaga actor, sadyang maarte lang talaga ako sa totoong buhay (laughs). Ayun, tina-try ko naman umarte saalang-alang sa ikagaganda at ikalalabas ng project na sana magustuhan ng maraming tao. At saka para mas maka-create sila ng story nung kanta,” he explained to Push.com.ph.
