Cathy Garcia-Molina Says No Competition Between Sam-KC and John Lloyd-Sarah Tandem

After the successful showing of Forever and a Day at the box office, director Cathy Garcia-Molina says she has learned to deal with the pressure of coming out with a hit after doing previously successful projects like A Very Special Love and My Amnesia Girl. “Every movie kasi parang natatanong sa akin ito and opo, merong pressure and I would like to forget about the pressure kasi I’d rather concentrate on how to tell a good story again. Kasi totoo yung pressure, hindi masaya pagdating sa pressure ng expectations and sana more than to expect that this will be another blockbuster movie, sana mas ma-expect nila na ito’y isang magandang pelikula. Sana it will be a movie that will inspire you again. Ang major goal ko is for the viewer to come out of the cinema loving life again, having a different look on life,” she shares.

Direk Cathy says that people from all walks of life will be able to relate to the story of Forever and a Day because it deals with a universal theme. “I think in one way or another, I think each one of us has experienced loss, whether it be a break-up or in any form. Nawalan na tayo. And pareho silang mawawalan dito. Mawawalan at makakabangon. And I think ito yung pinakagusto ko about the film, more than it tells us about the kilig stuff sa love story, it tells us how to love and it tells us how to hope,” she explains. Direk also shares how proud she is of the work lead stars Sam Milby and KC Concepcion put in. “They were very good in this film. I was surprised, meron akong mga favorite scenes nila na talagang wow, sabi ko, artista itong dalawang ito,” she admits.

After successfully working on projects with the then untested tandems of John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo, Direk Cathy says she is not bothered about whether the public would accept of reject the Sam-KC pairing. “It’s always naman a fear ‘di ba kung meron kang bagong tandem, hindi mo alam kung tatanggapin ng manunuod eh. Ang lagi ko lang sinasabi sa kanila, hindi naman kayo tatanggapin bilang kayo, tatanggapin kayo bilang yung characters niyo. So for as long as ang makikita nila onscreen is not you but the characters, sa tingin ko magwo-work. Naniniwala ako na yung kuwento ang magdadala ng bawat pelikula. So kahit sinong ilagay natin na artista yan, kung maganda yung kuwento at nakakakilig, papatok din,” she recalls.

The talented director also admitted that her latest movie does bear certain similarities to the popular romantic Hollywood drama A Walk to Remember. “Yes, I must admit there is. There are factors that are pareho. Lahat naman I think ng love stories may pagkakapareho but it was told differently and the characters are different so ibayung journey, iba yung point ng pelikula. Even if it talks about the same thing,” she explains.

Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina Happy With Positive Feedbacks for Sam Milby - KC Concepcion Movie Tandem

During the premiere night of Forever And A Day, director Cathy Garcia-Molina admitted that she was really nervous of how moviegoers would respond to Sam Milby and KC Concepcion’s first movie team-up. She had been very vocal about being challenged to bring out the best in her two lead stars, especially because this is her first time to do a romantic drama. “Hindi na nga ako tumitingin sa audience eh. Natakot ako sa reaction ng tao. Pero napansin ko, they were really quiet and attentive during the emotional scenes of KC and Sam’s characters. Natuwa ako kasi ibig sabihin they were trying to listen [to the dialogue] and I felt that they really appreciate KC and Sam's performance. If I may say so, na-showcase naman talaga yung galing nila and they have all the right to be called actors.”

True to her word, Direk Cathy made sure that Sam’s onscreen presence would have a similar impact to that of John Lloyd Cruz in A Very Special Love. At the same time, viewers would be surprised with the depth of emotion that Sam has given his role. “Gwapo talaga si Sam and magaling ang director of photography ko, si Dan Villegas. Pero extraordinary nga ang pagkagwapo ni Sam sa pelikula, may glow. I think nakatulong na gusto niya yung story of Eugene. Plus, he knows that he needs this project. He knows that he has to give more kasi pang-anim niya ng pelikula ito at pang-apat na niya sa akin [na siya ang bida]. So I’m sure naghahanap na din yung tao na, ‘Ano naman ang pwede mo mong mabigay?’ And I believe hindi kayo mabibigo. Sam was able to give more than what he has given in the past.”

Direk Cathy was equally proud of KC whom she had to be very strict with. Since it was their first time to work together, she told KC that she’s the type of director who doesn’t give special treatment even to showbiz royalties. “I am so happy kasi hinayaan niya akong i-control siya, i-guide siya. Malaking bagay sa aming mga director na pumapayag ang artistang magpadirek. Kasi ang tanging mabibigay ko kay KC yung emotion—dito ka manggagaling, dito ka pupunta. And I am so happy kasi yung ibang nuances sa kanya na galing. I am glad na lumalabas na yung naturalesa niya bilang artista. I didn’t have to spoon-feed everything. Nung umpisa ganon e, pero nung pumasok na siya sa character niya, naging natural na yung flow ng emotions nila.”

When asked what’s next after filming Forever And A Day, Direk Cathy revealed that she’s open to do more serious films in the future. “Basta huwag lang family drama, yun ang iniiwasan ko eh. Pero heavy drama na love stories, okay sa akin,” she beamed.

KC Concepcion Downplays Good Reviews of her Acting on Forever and a Day

KC Concepcion said that her role in her current movie, Forever And A Day, is an answered prayer because it is out of her comfort zone. KC played the role of Raffy, a young woman with a terminal disease and who is afraid to live life to the fullest. Sam Milby plays KC’s leading man.

The actress-host was flattered by director Cathy Garcia-Molina’s comments that KC proved herself an effective actress in the movie. “Maraming salamat kay Direk Cathy, hindi ko ito magagawa kung wala siya. Matagal akong naghintay bago ako gumawa ng pelikula ulit.” Her previous movie was I’ll Be There, exactly one year ago, which also starred her father Gabby Concepcion and Jericho Rosales.

KC was also sentimental during the premiere night because her grandmother, Mommy Elaine, attended the event. She related that her grandma has been a big influence on her in her pursuit of a showbiz career. “Siya ang dahilan kung bakit nagkaroon ng ako interest sa showbiz. Alam ko rin naman supportive ang mommy ko pero ang lola ko talaga ang very excited na makita ako sa ganitong trabaho. Nagti-text nga kami habang nanonood ng pelikula. Kahit ‘di kami madalas magkita gumagawa kami ng way na magkita kami.”

Though she has received many praises for her acting, KC added that Forever And A Day boasts of a good story and a bunch of brilliant actors. “Napakaganda ng kwento, and I believe maraming artista na magaling, mas magaling sa akin pero nagawa kong ikuwento ang story ni Raffy and I’m happy.”

Sam Milby Admires KC Concepcion's Acting Skills

Sam Milby said that he was able to discover how good an actress KC Concepcion is in their movie, Forever And A Day. While he needs more effort to prepare for dramatic scenes in their movie, Sam said that KC could deliver in their dramatic scenes in a jiffy. “Parang mas magaling siya sa emotional scenes, eh. Parang mas magaling siyang umiyak, eh. It’s funny kasi when we were on the set parang tawanan, she was making kwento about scenes tapos biglang ay take na, take na, and she started crying and how did she do that? Ako I need to be separated… to think about it and concentrate and then, ‘Direk take na.’ Parang ganun.”

In the movie, Sam and KC had to kiss a couple of times and Sam clarified that they did not feel uncomfortable because the scenes were not explicit. “We look at each other as friends,” explained Sam. “’Yung kissing scenes naman they were not torrid so I don’t that’s bad, eh.” The Fil-Am actor continued that he might have felt awkward had they been required to do very passionate kissing scenes. “But I think it’s too simple like romantic kissing scenes so I don’t think that’s bad. For me, it’s not that ilang but a little kasi syempre…” Sam went on without finishing his sentence.

Push.com.ph supplied if his little uneasiness was caused by the fact that he is friends with KC’s boyfriend, Piolo Pascual. “Unang-una, siguro Piolo has been in the business matagal na, (so) he understands eh. Being in the business he understands movies. I don’t think even if we had a very passionate kissing scene [Piolo would mind]. He knows that it’s work. I know he understands that in every aspect. I’m not worried about that.”

The actor also said that he is baffled that people continue to link him romantically to Marie Digby, who is supposed to be dating basketball player James Yap. “I just find it funny na hanggang ngayon maraming sinasabi na kami ni Marie and I made it clear to everyone before na never naging kami, never kaming nag-exclusively dating,” clarified Sam. He went on to say that he and Marie have long since agreed to be just friends.

He added that he has no say if rumors were true that the Youtube singing sensation is now going out with James. “Wala akong karapatan magsabi na ‘di siya mag-date kasi friends kami. If she’s happy, I’m happy.'
