Star Cinema's latest offering, "Way Back Home," is a tribute to the late young actor AJ Perez, one of the film's cast members said.
Young singer-actor Sam Concepcion said the name of his character, AJ, is a way of remembering Perez, who was killed in a highway accident in Tarlac last April.
Concepcion hopes to make Perez proud through his performance in the film.
"Ang pangalan ko in the movie is AJ, as a tribute to AJ [Perez]. Si AJ kasi he's very hardworking, kaya niyang gawin kahit ano na he sets his mind to," he said in an interview during a press conference for "Way Back Home."
"I wanted to do the same for this movie, ibibigay ko din ang lahat ng pwede kong gawin for this movie, kung paano niya din sana gagawin itong movie na ito.
"Just trying to do my best to make him proud in a way. Siyempre, naging kaibigan ko siya at siyempre, not to let him down this time."
Concepcion replaced Perez as one of the leading men in "Way Back Home" following the latter's death. The 2 young actors first worked together as members of dance group Giggerboys.
"Way Back Home" is directed by Jerry Lopez Sineneng and will hit theaters on August 17. The film also stars Kathryn Bernardo, Julia Montes, Enrique Gil, Lotlot de Leon, Tonton Gutierrez and Agot Isidro.
